Praying for those in Galveston

Remember this?

We've been joking about it looking like Ike will miss Austin, without even a drop of rain (which we desperately need). But in Galveston and the rest of the Houston area, the hurricane is right now bringing quite a bit of devastation. And those who chose not to evacuate are now stranded.

If you remember a year ago, we visited my former professor and his wife on their house boat near Galveston Bay (see the picture above, and check this blog post). Fortunately, they are staying with friends at the far end of Houston right now. But they're keeping tabs on their boat at the marina using this link: http://waterfordharbormarina.com/
An interesting note about the web cam: it is placed at about (if I remember correctly) 15 feet high. The storm surge is expected to be 20 to 25 feet high. As I write this, I can't see anything because it's night time and there are no lights. But it will be an interesting link to check in the morning.

Dr. Milam's son and his family chose to stay at their home in Galveston County. We'll certainly be praying for them tonight.
