We had a great day yesterday in Kemah (near Houston) at the Waterford Harbor Marina. We visited my college professor and advisor Henry Milam and his wife Carol, who packed their belongings five years ago to come back home to Texas and live on a sailboat! Their daughter Melanie was also visiting from Iowa--I interned for her at Iowa Public TV when I was in college and babysat her cute little girls who are now gorgeous teenagers.
Danny had a blast and was a perfect angel (except for a severe boredom spell on the way there). We were amazed at how much fun he could have in an enclosed space with about 5 feet of floor room with 5 other people, until we realized that for him, it was like a gigantic play yard with lots of friends inside! It was way too windy to sail out into Galveston Bay, which is just as well because I bought a life jacket for Danny but had my doubts from the beginning that he would A) sit still long enough to get it on and B) allow it to stay on for more than 2 minutes. So we stayed docked at the marina, had lunch at a beer garden with great hamburgers and walked the Kemah Boardwalk (well, Danny and Mark missed that one -- Danny fell asleep and stayed napping in the car).
Here are some more photos:
Mark, Danny and Melanie in front of Gypsy Wind (the boat); Mel with Danny; and us with Henry and Carol Milam (Danny's changed into his pjs for the car ride home -- we left at bedtime and he slept the whole way home!)
