Last Saturday we took the boys to their first parade, the Chuy's Children Giving to Children Parade in downtown Austin. The parade is an Austin holiday tradition and a great way to have some fun and teach your kids about sharing a little.
One small problem...
Our camera's battery was dead so we have no pictures!
Danny had a great time; riding on my shoulders for so long that I had two or three shoulder cramps that night from his 30+ lbs. body bouncing as floats and dancers went by. He was especially excited when the fire trucks and ambulance took over the street. The Chinese dance troop and dancing dragon were a hit too.
About an hour into the parade, several pickup trucks ride down the street and volunteers lift the crowd control line. The children go into the street (with parents, of course) to toss a toy into the pickup truck for a child in need. Danny became a little overwhelmed with the chaos of people running around trying to get their toys into these trucks. For a moment he had a scared look on his face but as soon as I picked him up he must have felt better because had a smile. He was wide-eyed through the whole thing but I think he enjoyed it.
Next year, I promise to have the camera in working order.
