Bring on the solid food...or not.

Seems promising...

But this is as far as the cereal gets...

I'm experiencing something in my house that other parents are more than familiar with but, up until this point, has been foreign to me: picky eaters. Both boys have turned into picky eaters, it seems. Tyler started rice cereal this week, but it was met with unethusiatic apathy. Much different than when Danny started on solids.

And Danny: he has always been a champ when it comes to eating nearly anything...and eating a lot of it. I blame this new-found pickiness on him being nearly 2 1/2. And what they say is true: 2 1/2 year olds really are from Mars. I'm sure I'll be writing more on that later. But this experience has forced me to be less judgmental. Whereas I once thought, "Parents who give their kids overprocessed chicken nuggets and high-fructose-corn-syrup-rich ketchup every night are just lazy and don't know enough about healthy diets," I now think, "Well, at least he'll eat chicken nuggets and lots of ketchup!" So don't judge me. I use organic ketchup.

On a side note: we're off to Chicago on Friday. So you may not see another post for a little while. Danny wants you to pray for snow....but Mark and I would rather you didn't.

I didn't even realize they make organic ketchup! I really don't eat the stuff so I only bought it for the first time a few months ago and didn't even think to look for that option.

I should have though, because E LOVES the stuff (is there a 2 year old who doesn't?). Here's what I repeatedly say during dinner: "Emmylou, we don't just eat ketchup by licking it off the plate/dipping our fingers into it. If you want ketchup, you need to dip one of your (overprocessed) chicken nuggets into it."

I say the same thing about French Fries and then can't believe I'm actually begging her to eat a FRENCH FRY.

Welcome to my world. We have discovered Tyson nuggets that are shaped like dinosaurs. Hunter loves them. That and Ramen Noodles, less the sodium laden seasoning pack. Hunter loves to eat those "raw" right out of the package. And of course anything dipped in Ranch dressing and anything chocolate. How she remains thin as a rail is beyond me.
