Tyler's daycare went on a field trip today to our local fire station. The fire fighters at Station 43 showed the kids around the fire house; where they slept, cooked and ate their meals and, most importantly, where they watched TV.Everyone got to walk through the fire truck, which is always fun. Speaking of fun - I got a little surprise myself.
The fire fighters were explaining some fire safety to the kids. They also wanted to make sure they understood that a person in a fire suit is not a monster. Being scared while in a fire and seeing a large, yellow object move towards you could be intimidating. So, to illustrate the point, the fire fighters showed the kids that a real person is in that fire suit and they are there to help them.
Guess who's in that fire suit? It was enlightening to wear that gear. Tyler knew I was in there but I think he still had a trust issue - his goofy smile pretty much tells the tale.
