A Note to Danny

Ok, Danny. Here's where we are now that you're 3. I guess to sum things up, we are so proud and amazed by you. I think the question right now is: what CAN'T you do?

Potty trained...check!

Big boy bed that you have to literally climb into....check!

Count to 14 and ABCs...check! (Not sure why it's 14.)

And your favorite things in the whole wide world:

Singing -- you are constantly singing. CONSTANTLY. Even in your sleep! [For those who haven't guessed....he gets that from me.] And you love to be challenged, so daddy gets a kick out of our "match my pitch!" and "let's switch keys!" and "tap this rhythm!" games that I play with you in the car. Your pitch is spot on! But daddy's not so fond of my house rule that you can be as loud as you want as long as you're singing.

Playing "ball" -- you love to kick, hit and catch balls ALL DAY LONG. We'll see who gets their way when you grow up. Mommy wants you to be a struggling musician and daddy would love to see our name on the back of an NFL jersey (or, actually, two of them if we include your brother -- as long as it's not for the Packers).

Other favorites: the color blue, of course; anything with a motor and wheels; orange juice; pizza day at school; the neighborhood kids; talking with babcia and dziadzia on the computer, pretending to be a "big mean dinosaur," getting books at the library...the list goes on.

You are really showing your independence right now. And, although it makes us proud....it also drives us crazy. Some days, life seems to be just one frustration after another; nothing seems to come easy -- you can't get your underwear pulled back up, you spill your juice on the floor for the 3rd time, you can't remember where you put your favorite truck, or Tyler has gotten into your basket of favorite toys AGAIN. And although you are perfectly capable of being so sweet and so polite, lashing out in frustration comes just as easily these days. But don't worry: things WILL get easier. Just think of all the cool "big boy" stuff you can do now that you couldn't do even 6 months ago. And please remember that pushing, hitting and kicking Tyler is going to really backfire on you one day. He WILL be bigger than you. And when that day comes, it's gonna get ugly...

Here's to another great year ahead! Daddy and I love you more than anything...and we can't wait to help you explore how wonderful 3 years old can be. Love you, bug. ...Mommy
