My sweet Tyler is 7 months old and I am so in love with him right now. He is at the cutest age and I'm trying to soak up these next few months so that they last forever. My friend Allison calls this the "potted plant" stage, where you can just plop the baby down and he'll sit there, happy, like a cute little ficus. And it's so true.
Tyler is also becoming quite the talker. Just in the last few days, he's been heard babbling at all hours of the day (and night). Mostly "da, da, da..." It can get pretty loud in our house these days because Danny is also in a "singing at the top of his lungs" stage. And I, never one to be upstaged in the singing department, have a hard time not joining in. So there we are: Mommy and Danny singing [screaming] Jingle Bells (no one told Danny Christmas was over) along with choreography and a dramatic 2-part ending with jazz hands while Tyler is bouncing up and down in his bouncer as hard as his chubby little [big] legs will let him, trying to join in with a little "ba, ba, BAAAA!" It's Mark's worst nightmare, really. So we try to reserve "crazy singing time" for the weekdays when he's at work.
Back to Tyler: Of course one of his obvious traits is his impressive size. Now in 18 month clothes, I fear he and Danny will be sharing a closet soon. But what is so amazing is that he's completely proportional. His height is just as "off the charts" as his weight, so he doesn't look overly chubby. Just plain super-sized! Mark and I often wonder if that's how professional athletes start out. Only time will tell if Tyler stays on track and becomes a 7 ft tall, 280 lb NFL superstar. Mark gets weepy just thinking about it.
Sleep has always been a topic in these early monthly updates, so let's get that addressed. The only problem Tyler has is a mom that is too inconsistent and lazy to allow him to learn to sleep as well as I know he can. But he's really settling into being able to fall asleep happily and quietly in his crib, on his own. We're still working on sleeping through the night and keeping mom from just feeding him when he wakes up so that we can all go back to sleep. But playing music seems to work nearly as well lately, thank goodness. When he really doesn't want to sleep, he will cry for up to 2 1/2 hours. Yes. Danny used to do that, too, despite my favorite sleep training books all saying, "Don't worry: rarely will a child cry for more than an hour before falling back to sleep." But my ray of hope is big brother Danny, who is the best sleeper in the world right now. Loves his 2 hour nap and sleeps peacefully from 8 pm to at least 6:30 am (which is fine for me: I'm a morning person).
This past month was a big one. Tyler learned to sit up well and eat solids while we moved to a new home and fought plenty of bugs (including his first ear infection -- let's all pray I don't have to endure BOTH boys getting ear tubes this year!). But we won't be slowing down anytime soon. I've been getting so many great freelancing and consulting opportunities that I'm looking into getting a daily "mommy's helper" so I can work from home. Plus, Tyler gets to accompany me on his very first business trip in February (soon he'll be asking for his own Blue Tooth ear piece and Twitter account). And then there's our annual Super Bowl party. Through it all, Tyler will be working on getting those first teeth in and crawling. Can't believe we've made it this far!
