Thank goodness we're not traveling!

Did you hear about the family getting kicked off a plane for nursing their child? You can read about it in USA Today. Granted, I think nursing a child at 22 months old is a bit extreme, and if I were politely asked by a fight attendant to cover up more, I would try. But this country needs to get over its hypocritical phobia of nursing. Science keeps proving more and more the benefits of nursing over giving formula and women these days are encouraged (and, unfortunately, in many ways guilted) by their doctors and peers and media to do so. So why, then, are nursing moms so ostracized? I do think moms should be reasonably discrete in public as a common courtesy. I know Americans, unlike people in many other countries, will need some time to get comfortable with seeing women nursing at restaurants, for instance. But on a plane, near the back, at a window seat, with her husband next to her...what else can she do? I don't want to make any political statements about the subject, I simply hope our friends and family can stop and ponder and perhaps be a bit more compassionate (if given the opportunity) than this flight attendant was!

That being said, stay tuned for Danny's 5 month portraits that I hope to have posted later this morning!
