The big chill

Last night at 6 pm it was about 95 degrees. This morning: 55 degrees with a very cool wind chill. What a difference a few hours can make! We decided to tough it out and meet our friends at the park anyway. Doesn't Danny look cute?

He woke up amazingly happy this morning since we officially began using the Ferber method yesterday for bedtime and naps. That means, we put him to bed sleepy but awake so that he can learn to soothe himself to sleep. It came to that because we were rocking him until he fell asleep and a few minutes later, he'd wake up and start crying because he was alone in his crib. I was literally spending all day and all night rocking him.

So after reading about several different methods and some pep talks from my sister Renae who had just gone through it with Danny's 6-week-older cousin Evan, I was ready to try it. It really only takes a few minutes of crying before he falls asleep -- but to me and Mark, every minute is a lifetime! Last night went really well and I think Danny's on the road to sleep independence. Here's Mark cuddling with Danny before starting our bedtime bath ritual. We were bracing ourselves for a long night...but, fortunately, it didn't come to that!
